Krpeljevic Retains Lead; Szotynska and Weir in Close Battle

Laser Radial Open and Women World Championship - Krpeljevic Retains Lead; Szotynska and Weir in Close Battle
RIVA DEL GARDA, ITALY-(30-7-2003) Normal conditions returned to Lake Garda for the final day of qualification races. Two male fleets completed their outstanding races from the previous day in a day in a 10 knot northerly wind and then came ashore. Later in the day the southerly `Ora` wind came in at 12 knots and all fleets completed 2 more races to get back on schedule.

After another first place in the 6th race Karlo Krpeljevic from Croatia tried a bit too hard in the 7th race and was disqualified for a premature start which he now discards. However a third place in the last race keeps him 10 points clear in front of his fellow countryman Aron Lolic.

In the women's fleet Nufar Edelman from Israel had a perfect day scoring two firsts with an impressive lead in both races. She moves from fifth to third overall while ahead of her, defending champion Katarzyna Szotynska moves to the top of the leader board with a second and third after a close race with Krystal Weir in both races.

The male fleet now moves on to a final series of 4 more races over the next 2 days while the women continue their series of 4 more races as a separate fleet. A second discard comes into force after 10 races however with rain forecast for Wednesday evening the fleet once again face the prospect of the of poor wind conditions and the distinct possibility of no races.
